Today, the main focus of pure biochemistry is on understanding how biological molecules give rise to the processes that occur within living cells, which in turn relates greatly to the study and understanding of tissuesorgans, and whole organisms that is, all of biology.

Track 3: Genetics and Tissue Science & Engineering

One kind of biotechnology is gene technology, sometimes called ‘genetic engineering’ or ‘genetic modification’, where the genetic material of living things is deliberately altered to enhance or remove a particular trait and allow the organism to perform new functions. Genes within a species can be modified, or genes can be moved from one species to another. Genetic engineering has applications in medicine, research, agriculture and can be used on a wide range of plants, animals and microorganisms. It resulted in a series of medical products. The first two commercially prepared products from recombinant DNA technology were insulin and human growth hormone, both of which were cultured in the E. coli bacteria.

The Pharmaceutical Biotechnology is widely spread, ranging from many ethical issues to changes in healthcare practices and a significant contribution to the development of national economy. Biopharmaceuticals consists of large biological molecules which are proteins. They target the underlying mechanisms and pathways of a disease or ailment; it is a relatively young industry. They can deal with targets in humans that are not accessible with traditional medicines.

Food processing is a process by which non-palatable and easily perishable raw materials are converted to edible and potable foods and beverages, which have a longer shelf life. Biotechnology helps in improving the edibility, texture, and storage of the food; in preventing the attack of the food, mainly dairy, by the virus like bacteriophage  producing antimicrobial effect to destroy the unwanted microorganisms in food that cause toxicity  to prevent the formation  and degradation of other toxins and anti-nutritional elements present naturally in food.

Track 8: Animal Biotechnology

Animal biotechnology is a branch of biotechnology in which molecular biology techniques are used to genetically engineer animals in order to improve their suitability for pharmaceutical, agricultural or industrial applications. Many animals also help by serving as models of disease.  If an animal gets a disease that’s similar to humans, we can use that animal to test treatments.  Animals are often used to help us understand how new drugs will work and whether or not they’ll be safe for humans and effective in treating disease.

Track 9: Plant Biotechnology & Agricultural Biotechnology

Biotechnology is being used to address problems in all areas of Agricultural Production and processing. This includes Plant breeding to raise and stabilize yields; to improve resistance to pests, diseases and abiotic stresses such as drought and cold; and to enhance the nutritional content of foods. Modern Agricultural Biotechnology improves crops in more targeted ways. The best known technique is genetic modification, but the term Agricultural Biotechnology (or green biotechnology) also covers such techniques as Marker Assisted Breeding, which increases the effectiveness of Conventional Breeding.

Track 10:Nanobiotechnology

Nano biotechnology refers to the intersection of Nanotechnology and Biology. Given that the subject is one that has only emerged very recently, Bio nanotechnology and Nano biotechnology serve as blanket terms for various related technologies. The most important objectives that are frequently found in Nano biology involve applying Nano tools to relevant medical/biological problems and refining these applications. Developing new tools, such as Peptide Nano-sheets, for medical and Biological purposes is another primary objective in Nanotechnology. New Nano-tools are often made by refining the applications of the Nano-tools that are already being used. The imaging of native biomolecules, biological membranes, and tissues is also a major topic for the Nano-biology researchers. Other topics concerning Nano biology include the use of cantilever array sensors and the application of Nano-photonics for manipulating Molecular processes in living cells.

This interesting field of science has many applications and research areas where it can be applied. It plays an essential role in today’s plant science. As the amount of data grows exponentially, there is a parallel growth in the demand for tools and methods in data management, visualization, integration, analysis, modeling, and prediction.

biotechnology company is a company whose products or services primarily use Biotechnology methods for their production, design or delivery. The Nations Convention defines ‘Biotechnology’ as: “Any technological application that uses Biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use.” In other words, Biotechnology can be defined as the mere application of technical advances in life science to develop commercial products. Today, no comprehensive global database of Biotech companies is available online, despite the fact that a free and open access project was launched in late 2014.
